You see I promised you that I would bring you more details of the rules of Junior Monopoly and I am good to my word! I have provided below all the important twists and turns you and your kids will meet as you enjoy all the fun of the fair! We have covered how we set up the game and begin to play and some of the rules. Let’s get to the end of the game – who’s going to win this one??

We have the following items to explore!

The Railroad

When you arrive at the railroad, you need to roll the dice again, move to the right space and follow the instructions on the space you land on.

The Restrooms

If you land on the Restrooms space I am afraid you are “Just Waiting”!

“Go to the Restrooms”

If you land on a space with this instruction, you must go directly to the restrooms, do not pass Go, do not collect $2. You also have to put $3 on the “Rich Uncle Pennybags Loose Change” space. When it comes to your next move, you can just roll the die and move as normal.

Fireworks and Water Shows

If you land on the Fireworks or Water Show space, in junior monopoly, you have to pay $2 to watch the show! You place the $2 on the “Rich Uncle Pennybags Loose Change” space.

Rich Uncle Pennybags Loose Change

Now in we know we have to pay money into the Rich Uncle Pennybags Loose Change space but what happens to all that cash? Well if you land on this space you get to keep it all!!

Chance

Like in regular monopoly, you just pick up the top card from the deck, follow the instructions and put the card in the discarded card pile. If you run out of cards you just need to, turn over the pile of discarded cards and start again.

We are almost there now! Just a few more rules and instructions to go. I will bring them to you very soon – pinky promise!

If you think your kids might have some fun with Monopoly Junior, you will find it in stock at Amazon.

The object of Monopoly Junior is largely the same as it’s grown up counterpart but the rules have been slightly amended to make it more user friendly and more importantly more fun for younger children. I will give you a brief introduction to the rules here. The best way to learn this game is to start playing!

In Monopoly Junior the winner is the person with the most money when the first player runs out of cash. This is great for kids as they don’t have to hang around getting bored while those still in the game keep going.

Instead of buying houses and hotels, you make your money by setting up ticket booths on boardwalk amusements such as the ferris wheel.

To begin the game, each player chooses a car to move around the park.

Each player gets 10 ticket booths.

The Chance Cards need to be shuffled.

A banker should be appointed to control the money and hand out change when necessary.

Now we are ready to roll the die. As always the highest roller gets to go first.

Each player moves their car along the board until they reach the space they are supposed to land on.

They must then follow the instructions on the space they land on.

If a player lands on an amusement that doesn’t have a ticket booth, they have to pay the banker and then they get to put one of their ticket booths on the ride. This means that you can now charge any player that lands at your ticket booth the entrance fee for the ride. The entrance fee is shown on the space.

If a player lands on an amusement with a ticket booth already in place they need to pay up the amount shown on that space on the board. If a player owns two ticket booths on an amusement, you’re in trouble, you gotta pay double!

When you pass “Go” on the board you collect and extra $2 from the bank. Make sure you remember to get the banker to pay up!

I will bring you more details of Monopoly Junior’s rules in another post – I promise. If you want to find all the details now, you will find them here!

Monopoly and other board games provided some great family nights and indeed memories when we were growing up. Now there is no point denying that the older kids and the adults were at a slight advantage, and it took us younger ones a while to get up to speed. In the beginning this was a little frustrating. Monopoly Junior gives you the opportunity to introduce this great board game to your young kids, on a level that means they can have all the fun from the start. The rules are a little simpler and the games don’t last so long as the regular version, and that is ideal when attention spans are shorter.

Monopoly Junior comes in a number of editions but the original version is based around a theme park – all the fun of the fair at home (and without the expense!). Properties are now different park rides such as the ferris wheel or the merry-go-round and houses and apartments are replaced with ticket booths. If someone has a ticket booth on a ride, you have to pay them the entrance fee. Your kids might even get to appreciate the value of money and the cost of going on rides before your next visit to an amusement park.

Instead of going to jail, there might be a visit to the restrooms – do not pass go, do not collect $2! There is also a firework display and a watershow at the park but I am afraid it is going to cost you! This game ends as soon as one player runs out of money. At this point, whoever has the most money is the winner. I think this rule is really a winner as no-one is excluded from the fun wait for a drawn out battle between other players to be won. You can simply declare the winner and start again – best out of three anyone?

All in all, Monopoly Junior can provide some fun, family time for adults and young kids to enjoy together. It is something we don’t do enough of these days. Maybe it is time to start a games night!
